Weight Loss...Fat Loss...It's all the same right?

The simple answer is No. You can be burning calories and losing weight on the scale but that doesn't necessarily mean it's fat...you could be losing muscle, just as readily as fat, and that's not a good thing. The not so simple reason is that it's not all about the calories...calories impact your hormones and your hormones, in turn, affect calories. We are all as different on the inside as we are on the outside, so the One Size Fits All weight loss model of "calories in (eat less) vs. calories out (exercise more)" is flawed and simply doesn't work. This approach of "calories first", leaves you totally dependant on your willpower and at the mercy of your metabolism. It's not the calories that are controlling your metabolism, it's your hormones.

You may ask, "what are hormones and why are they so important?" (Those are great questions and thanks for asking by the way ;-) ) Hormones are basically the "computer software" for your body. They tell your body how to react and what to do with information that it's exposed to. This is important because when your hormones are out of whack, they affect your hunger, energy, mood, cravings, etc...Just ask or hell, better yet, be around any woman who is on or around her monthly cycle or who is peri-menopausal. Need I say more? LOL Still not buying it? Let me ask you this...how many calories do sleep and stress have each? You may be thinking that I've completely lost my mind asking you a silly question like that. We all know that you can't eat or drink either one so therefore they contain no calories, so what's the big deal? The big deal is that sleep and stress will affect your hormones and therefore, affect what you eat or don't eat (calories), from meal to meal. And this, my friends, is not because they are loaded with calories but because of their impact on your hormones.

This was a "Light Bulb", "AHA" moment for me, as I had lived for years under constant stress and lack of sleep and struggled with my weight. It wasn't until I learned about Jade Teta and a company called Metabolic Effect Inc. that I finally started to see the light. Jade is an Integrative Physician, Author, Founder and CEO of Metabolic Effect Inc., Health, Fitness and Fat Loss Expert (and he's a super nice guy). Anyone who has participated in my ME workouts, either in class or as a personal training client, can thank Jade for these :-) Check out his article, Hormones & Weight Loss.
